Research finding
Lingzhi spore polysaccharide rebalanced gut bacteria and reduced colon inflammation (mouse study)
In mice with colon inflammation and colon tumors induced by chemicals, the group given a water-soluble polysaccharide from lingzhi had milder disease activity and fewer, smaller tumors; their gut microbiome returned toward balance and production of increased.
Animal studyObserved in animalsHow the study was done
The researchers used two chemicals (azoxymethane and dextran sulfate sodium) to induce colon inflammation and tumors in mice, compared mice that did and did not receive the lingzhi spore polysaccharide, analyzed changes in the gut microbiome by sequencing and measured short-chain fatty acids; they also did supplementary experiments on immune cells and intestinal cells.
What the researchers say
The researchers consider this lingzhi spore polysaccharide a promising for research on treating colorectal cancer.
