Background
How the components of a large red lingzhi variety change across growth stages
Researchers measured the components of a large red lingzhi variety at five stages, from the bud stage to the spore-release stage. were highest at the bud stage (1.16%) and then gradually fell, dropping most sharply between maturity and spore release; total first rose and then fell, peaking at maturity (2.22%).
Composition analysisLab measurement of what lingzhi containsHow the study was done
Polysaccharides and total triterpenes were measured using the methods of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia, along with amino acids, crude fiber and heavy metals.
What the researchers say
The researchers concluded that, considering both quality and yield, maturity is the best time to harvest; the surplus buds removed during cultivation are nutrient-rich and worth putting to good use.
