Researchers compared fruiting body components at different growth stages of “Meiling No. 1”, the main variety grown in Meizhou, and found that after the fruiting body released its spores, and protein content fell somewhat.

What the researchers say
The researchers suggested that if spore powder is not being collected, the fruiting body can be harvested at maturity, before spore release.
